AWLA announces participation in Best in Shelter Competition

Arlington, VA. – The best-selling mystery author Martha Grimes has invited the Animal Welfare League of Arlington to participate in the first Best in Shelter (www.bestinshelter.org) competition. Best in Shelter is the first virtual dog show where shelter dogs compete for prize money for their shelters. The League is one of four area shelters chosen to participate.

Each shelter will submit short video clips of four of its available dogs to the Best in Show Web site. The public can vote for favorite videos from June 14 through June 17, 2012. The shelter whose video gets the most votes will win $50,000. Second prize is $25,000 and third prize is $15,000. All the shelters win $5,000 for participating.

?We are thrilled for the chance to compete for such a generous prize and to show off our adorable dogs for adoption,? says Neil Trent, League Executive Director. ?We embrace any opportunity to show the world that shelter dogs are just as happy and healthy as show dogs.?

About the League. Since 1944, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington has been committed to the humane treatment of animals and to the promotion of animal welfare.
