The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving the City of Alexandria and providing assistance throughout the region. Operating the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, we also hold a contract with the City of Alexandria to provide animal control and stray sheltering services.
Since 1946, we have been committed to our mission of inspiring compassion for all living things, providing shelter to animals in need and promoting adoptions, animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in our community. As part of this mission, we make every effort to go above and beyond for the animals in our care, like Ike and Sadie Kay, providing medical attention, behavioral assistance, enrichment, foster opportunities and so much more, on top of a nutritious meal and a safe place to sleep. This level of care is possible thanks to the support of our community, and every day we are grateful for the gifts of time, goods and funds they provide to help us improve the lives of thousands of animals each year.
